Xiao Ya Tou in Tanjong Pagar

4 Girls went on a date one day and we decide to drop by Xiao Ya Tou to try out the fusion dishes. Here are what we had and I must say the price tag isn't wallet friendly. Food Quality is there but I wish that there was more WOW factor.

The cute yet nostalgic posters hanging on all walls, Chinese Lanterns and metal gates. If you look closely at the posters, you might find something interesting too! I'm not going to spoil the fun for you.

Complimentary Achar from the restaurant, sourish and spicy at the same time. A great appetizer to start with!

I absolutely love the Crispy Otak Otak Rolls ($12). The Otak packed a punch and complimented the crispy skin wrapped around. I would gladly order another plate of this to go with beer.

Thanks to the staff's recommendation, we ordered the Drunken Flower Clams ($23). The broth was sweet and addictive with a slight spicy kick. The clams were yummy and it was a huge bowl for $23!

For Mains, we ordered the XYT Hokkien Mee ($16) which is Xiao Ya Tou's version of Stir- Fried Hokkien Mee. I must say this is an expensive Hokkien Mee. Though the flavour of the broth was present in every mouthful, I feel that we could always get a cheaper alternative outside.

We also ordered the XYT Lu Rou Fan ($13). This is no typical Lu Rou Fan, it is made from braised Wagyu Beef and served with a poached egg.

Let's try the Char Siew shall we? The Kurobuta Char Siew ($19) did not amaze us thou the charred bits were really addictive.

We need a balance diet guys, so we ordered the Spicy Brussels Sprouts ($14). It consist of Minced Chicken, Chye Po and Chilli Jam. I really hate eating Brussels Sprouts but the one at XYT made it really enjoyable, maybe it's the mince chicken and Chye Po mixture.

Something to share: The White Sangria ($69) is made up of white wine, green apple, passion fruit, peach, orange, lime and lemon. We loved the fruity blast mixed in the white wine, A good balance overall.

Aone Porridge - New Menu New Experiences!

*Food Tasting*

I believe that we have all seen Aone porridge around in Food Courts in the past few years and maybe you have seen them in shopping malls in the recent year too! Aone porridge have always been famous with their porridge in a claypot because it has good airflow and good insulation which locks in moisture and nutrients. I am glad to be invited to their outlet at Kallang Wave Mall for an introduction to their new menu!

Clean and spacious layout, creating a casual atmosphere where everyone would feel comfortable eating and sharing family-style comfort food. Because I believe that we tend to find comfort in food that are most familiar to us.

Starting off with some tea, their Signature Fruit Tea and my personal favourite, Jasmine Tea. I believe the fruit tea has some Hawthon inside which makes it a little bitter sweet but very pleasing to the palate. The Jasmine Tea is just plain Jasmine Tea but very good for cleansing the palete and tummy from all the delicious food that you are about to have.

Premium Dried Scallop Porridge(pictured) & Dried Scallop Porridge with minced meat & assorted egg were two of the delicious porridge I got to try that day. My bias would be the Latter, It was more to my suited to my taste due to the use of meat and assorted eggs like Century egg and Salted egg.

Steamed scallop with minced garlic & vermicelli - Very aromatic when it was served, we rushed though the photos because we could not wait to dig in! Fresh Scallop topped with fragrant garlic, resting on a sea of vermicelli was a tad salty but if paired with Aone's porridge, it would be just right.

Deep Fried Pumpkin and Lotus Root with creamy salted egg sauce - It came to us golden brown and my table had high expectations for it but it was oily in the mouth and the salted egg punch was not strong enough. I gave up after 1 piece.

Premium Claypot - Consisting of Abalone Mushroom, Scallop, Sliced Fish, Prawn and Fish Maw. Light taste, suitable for people who have light taste buds, fresh ingredients and very homely feel.

Assorted Vegetables in Sambal Sauce - A very localized dish where sambal is used to stir fry vegetables till fragrant, albeit slightly oily, it was really fragrant and delicious, pair with porridge for optimum taste.

Honey Chicken - Suitable for all young and old, Crispy fried chicken tossed in sweet sauce sprinkled with sesame seed, presented with cute little cucumbers around is definitely a MUST ORDER in my opinion. I ate like alot of this during the session, I love it!

Thank You Aone for the invite for this wonderful food tasting session, I have been a fan of Aone's porridge and I will continue to patronize even if they never invite me to the food tasting! hahaha!

LE Restaurant & Bar - Avant-Garde Dining Concept

LÈ Restaurant & Bar is an avant-garde dining concept that seeks to evoke diners with a sensuous and voguish dining experience like never before. Encompassing an exclusive modern Chinese restaurant and an intimate chic bar offering ingeniously created Asian-inspired tapas and cocktails, expect a redefinition of Chinese dining on a whole new level.

Went there with the company for the Annual Chinese New Year Dinner and below are the visuals.

Food has nothing for me to pick on, Service was good, staff were attentive and smiley. Overall experience I enjoyed myself. I love the Open Concept Kitchen where we could see the chefs working each dish from Start to completion.

Something Not To Be Missed: Le Special - the local dessert of Ice Kacang is spiked with curaçao, crème de menthe, pomegranate syrup and spiced rum, sweetened with gula melaka with Red Bean at the bottom, it left me craving for more.. I'm definitely going back for it.

Cai Poh Omelette - $6.00 / $10.00

Taiwan Lettuce (er cai, 鹅菜) - $8.00 / $14.00
For a Non-Veggie Eater like me, This is a Surprisingly YUMMY Dish that I can't stop eating.
The Vegetable is lightly Salted and is Crunchy in Every Bite (I am Serious). This had to be one of some of the best Vegetables I Have eaten so far.

3-Cup Chicken with Basil (三杯鸡) - $12.00 / $16.00
If you are a Huge Fan of 3-Cup Chicken, Goldleaf's Version may not make you go GaGa over it but it is worth a try. Tender pieces of chicken with flavour enhanced with the different spices.

Traditional Prawn Rolls - $8.00 / $12.00
I LOVE THIS, Especially the Crunchy bits of Chestnut infused in the prawn rolls, with the right proportion of Meat, Chestnuts, Onions and Prawns. I was the last one finishing up this Dish.

Goldleaf Braised Pork Belly - $10.00 / $16.00
I have a Love and Hate Relationship with Pork Belly. I love it when their meat is tender and the Fats melt in your mouth, But I don't like it when it piles on the calories for me. But oh well, Eat First, Think Later.

Cod Fish with Specialty Sauce - $9/100g
MY LOVE FOR FISH WILL NEVER DIE! Haha, Goldleaf's Cod Fish is fresh, Crispy on the outside, Soft and Tender on the Inside. Accompanied with the special sauce that is just lacking in something which I can't really tell, was it the Ginger Flavour? or The Sweetness Flavour? Let me know if you feel the same after you tried it! :D

Fresh Cockles with Special - $8.00 / $14.00
Well, Cockles are really fresh according to the other ladies on the table that day. It's either you Love it or Hate it. I did try 1 piece and I have to say that I hate it. I couldn't make it go pass my tongue.

Green Tea Jelly & Red Tea Jelly - $4.00 each
I prefer the Green Tea Jelly as it has a stronger "Tea" taste and Aroma which I like, as compared, the Red Tea Jelly was lacking in Flavour.

Herbal Jelly - $3.00
It's up to you whether you want to drizzle the honey over this dessert or not. I personally like it both ways. It's bitter but not too overpowering.

Yam Paste with Gingko Nuts - $4.00
Being a Huge Fan of Yam Paste, I was expecting a sweeter and a more aromatic Yam Paste, But nonetheless, Godleaf's Yam Paste is more suitable for people who doesn't like their desserts too sweet.
