Cathay Motion Pictures Award 2015

[Event]

I got invited to attend the Cathay Motion Picture Awards 2015! A annual short film competition which started in 2012 for budding filmmakers to showcase their talents. We got to see the result show of The top 3 Winners; Best Motion Picture Award, First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up and a Viewers Choice Award.

Red Carpet Photo Opportunity! Awkward Pose. Hahaha!
Red Carpet Interview Sessions with one of the 15 Finalist and their Supporters!

And after the Red Carpet, we were invited up to Cathay Cineplex Screen 2 for the Final Showdown. We watched 15 different films that were of 80 Seconds Each. Why 80 seconds? Because it is Cathay's 80th Anniversary this year! And all groups were given 80 Hours to finish a 80 Seconds Film! It's a tough timeline but I am very impressed with all the 15 Finalist Works!

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND NOW.... THE RESULTS!

Viewers Choice - Artist by the group Smells Like Team Spirit (Andre He, Ho Wen Long, Jeremy Ho, Luna Pham, Russell Chan and Tan Yang Er)

Third Prize - $8,000 Cash went to the heart-tugging film Fragments, a film by Triple Js - Jaze Phua, Jerry Lim and Justin Kan.

Coming in second place, with a prize of $12,000 cash, was the film Seletar, written and directed by Melinda Tan and produced by Yeo Zhi Qi, both of whom conceptualised the story about two school girls mourning the death of their friend.

Retch made its way to the top prize at the Cathay Motion Picture Awards 2015. The team took home a cash prize of S$20,000, That's ALOT OF MONEY! Hope they put it to good use and come up with more films! Looking Forward!

In my personal opinion, The Cathay Motion Picture Award is a very good platform for budding filmmakers a chance to showcase their talent and also a platform to judge themselves on how good they are as compared to the other talents in the market. I now look forward to Next year's Competition!!

With Love, M
