Gills N Shells New Steamed Seafood Basket

I'm back again at Gills N Shells. They have a updated menu and a brand new item that you make you say "AHOY MATEY!" Haha.

Gills N Shells is the perfect chill out location that is not in our central area but close by in Lavender area. Just a 5 minutes walk from Lavender MRT Exit B and you will reach Hotel Boss, where Gills N Shells is located.

Gills N Shells, as the name suggests, is all about seafood, from fish to oysters, they do it really well. Featuring the Oyster Shooter ($9.90/shot), it consist of a plump oyster doused in Vodka and lime juice. This is one shooter you will never forget and do not worry, you will not get drunk from this. Haha.

Gills N Shells have daily Happy Hour promotions for you to come visit any day of the week. We cannot miss out those munchies to snack too. Gills N Shells have 2 popular snacks, Fried Salmon Skin ($9.90) and also the Crab Nacho Chips($10.90). The former remains crunchy even until we finished off the last piece. Served with wasabi mayo, it is so good you would not want to stop!

Gills N Shells is the first cafe that I've known to serve Spicy Buffalo Frog Legs($16.90). I have had frog leg porridge before but spicy buffalo frog legs are a first for me. Big, fat, juicy buffalo frog legs are imported from Vietnam and they look like a huge chicken drumstick instead!! Haha. You've definitely got to try this.

Highlight of the night would have to be the All New Steamed Seafood Basket. The one you see is their All in one Steamed Seafood Basket ($88) which consist of a Boston Lobster, Snow Crab Legs, Prawns, Salmon Fillet, Oyster(2pcs), Mussels, White Clams, Scallops and Seasonal Vegetables. Great for sharing with a group of 3-5 friends over some beer & bites.

For couples who would like to try their steamed seafood can opt for a smaller portion to try. Choose the desired seafood and request it to be steamed. It will also be served in a Dim Sum basket, so cute right!!

There are 5 dips to choose from, Garlic Mayo, Wasabi Mayo, Cocktail sauce, Thai Sweet Chilli and my personal favourite, the Zesty Lime Green Chilli sauce. Well, you could always go without the dips as well, it all up to you!

I love the fresh, juicy and crunchy prawns the most as I am a prawn lover. Try it and let me know what is your favourite in the comments below

Pince & Pints with #barcodespricetag

Finally made it to Pince & Pints with #barcodespricetag. Lobster Rolls have been such a hype for the past year that we had to try out one of the most expensive one!! At $48++ for every type of item in the menu, Pince & Pints doesn't disappoint and you will definitely feel that your money is worth it! Though I would seriously consider going early or real late or in small groups so that you will get a seat soon as they DO NOT take reservations.

Blurry group photo to start the night, we were all so hungry!!! Can you recognize who is who? :x

Lobster Roll - Mesclun Salad, Sour cherry & Balsamic Dressing accompanied with Shoe String Fries. Juicy and Chunky Pieces of Lobster Meat tossed in Mayonnaise, served on the Fluffy yet crispy butter fried bun. It was so good I had to share it with everyone on the table!! There was only "OMG IT'S SO NICE!"

Steamed Whole Live Lobster for those who wants the Au Natural Sweetness of the Lobster. Juicy meat paired with a side of salad and show string fries and buttery sauce! Grilled Whole Live Lobster has the slight charred aroma which makes it really addictive!! Meat is less juicy but still as chewy and delicious!!

1 Word to describe this Chilli Lobster would be - Tomatoish (is there such a word?) Slight Tinge of spiciness could be tasted but it did not dampen our mood to dip the fluffy deep fried mantou into the eggy sauce!

It was an awesome night with #barcodespricetag (inside joke) and we will look forward to more foodie meet-ups in 2015!! We will always be the most noisy group of girls in the restaurant. Hahahaha!

[F.T] Red House Seafood (小红楼) - 38th Anniversary Special Menu!

Bringing families together since 1976, Red house is one of the oldest seafood restaurant in Singapore that survived the test of time. They use to be located in a 'Red House' literally, decorated with red lanterns on the exterior at Upper East Coast Road, due to the move, they preserved the red lantern as their logo till today. And they have 3 outlets island wide, serving up the freshest seafood to customers at East Coast, Robertson Quay and Prinsep Street)

To celebrate their 38th Anniversary, Red house has come up with new dishes, set lunches and 2 celebratory set dinner which is available from now till 30 June 2014. The 7 Course Set Dinner consist of  freshly flown in Live seafood from Scotland, How fresh ? They are flown in at least 3 times a week, That is really Fresh! And each Dinner set priced at $388++ for 6 Persons, AND is inclusive of  a bottle of champagne OR Premium White wine OR 2 Jugs of beer!

I was invited to try out their 'Modern' Anniversary Set Dinner spread, so lets take a look at what we can get at $388++ for 6 pax with free Champagne OR White Wine OR 2 Jugs of Beer!

I had to google what was whelks, I bet some of us have to too. Well, they are basically sea snails but they are not EWWW but more of Mmmmmm when tossed with the sweet & spicy dressing accompanied with silvers of mango and onions.
Chilled Spicy Whelks - $35

I grew up eating Sri Lankan Crabs and Japanese Soft Shell Crabs, lol. And now I have another crab to add into my collection, the Scottish Brown Crab! The Scottish Crab's flesh is firm but flaky, when tossed with the white pepper, it makes it finger licking good!
Scottish Brown Crabs in White Pepper - $58/Kg

I love Fish, Steam, Fried, Sashimi, I love them! This Megrim Fish shocked me at the price tag and I must say it's worth every penny. Smooth and tender texture steamed with simple condiments such as garlic and Superior soya sauce, brought out the freshest of the freshness it offers.
Garlic Steamed Megrim Fish - $100/Kg

If you want something more exciting, you can opt for the Spicy Seafood Combination instead of the Migrim Fish. A thai inspired creation that includes Fresh Cuttlefish, Scallops, Shrimps and Garoupa Fish Slices in a enticing Kaffir laced curry sauce. Dip it with the mantou(steam or fried) for a resemblance to chilli crab.
Spicy Seafood Combination -

My Favourite of the night, the Scottish Blue Lobster coated with sweet mayonnaise, What could go wrong with Mayonnaise? Hahaha! The flesh of the Beautiful Scottish Blue Lobster is firm and slightly springy and when paired with the special sweet mayonnaise, I couldn't help licking the sauce off the shell!
Scottish Blue Lobster Coated with sweet Mayonnaise - $148/Kg

Huge Scottish Oysters rest on a bed of fluffy eggs covering the Yuan Yang Hor Fun, which basically means the mixture of the crispy deep fried hor fun & sliky smooth hor fun sitting in a pool of delicious thick gravy. Every bite of this dish makes me crave for it more & more. I think I can finish it on my own. hehe.
Oyster Yuan Yang Hor Fun - $20

Of course there will be daily Greens served in the set dinner, As well as daily desserts! YAY! But here I want to share with you the dessert that I had that day. The Lime Sherbet with Lemongrass Jelly makes a refreshing end to the whole meal adventure and it cleanse my palette and marks a sweet ending to the day. The latter, Mango Pomelo with Sago was a tad disappointing due to the bitter pomelo and runny mango puree.

Lime Sherbert with Lemongrass Jelly - $6.80, Mango Pomelo with Sago - $4.80

BONUS INTRODUCTION!
Red House Seafood's Chilli Crab Pao uses the REAL Chilli Crab Sauce that they extract from their Chilli Crab and they wrap it up in fluffy pao and steam it or Fry it! The Burst of the chilli crab sauce its like a Liu Sha Bao(salted egg yolk pao) but with chilli crab goodness! SUPER RECOMMENDED!
Chilli Crab Pao (steamed or fried) - 3 for $8 (Only Available for Lunch!!)

Red House Seafood has also come up with a New Set Lunch Menu. It's a five-course set lunch at only $38++ For 2 person! The set lunch comes with a Dim Sum Basket of siew mai, mixed mushroom dumpling, scallop & chives dumpling, and oven-baked char siew pau made by the dim sum chef(dim sum choices may vary) Followed by their signature Creamy Custard Prawn, Oyster Yuan Yang Hor Fun and fried daily greens with a sweet ending of durian mochi as desserts! Peppery but not too spicy, Flavourful with all the different peppers and seafood, this is a tasty chowder that I believe its not commonly found in Singapore.
Green Chilli Seafood Chowder

Cute presentation of the drunken chicken made me more eager to try it out. Topped with the special sauce that complemented the tender piece of chicken, Not much of the "Drunken" feeling though.
Drunken Chicken Marinated with Shaoxin and Mirin

Tea Smoked Egg topped with Bonito Flakes, Runny Egg Yolk is a plus point for me for any egg dishes and the bonito flakes added a different level of mouthfeel and flavour to this simple dish.
Shanghainese Tea Smoked Egg with Bonito Flake Topping

Cute little Shooter Glasses added the fun to a simple Appetizer. Fresh Sweet mangos paired with a savory Crab meat Salad topped with Half a Cherry Tomato served on Ice, It almost seems like its a dessert.

★ Crispy fried baby sotong coated with the sweet and slightly Sticky sauce, making it a great beer pairing snack, I could not stop popping them into my mouth.
Crispy-fried Baby Squid

Fresh Prawns fried to a crisp but the moisture was retained in the Prawn Flesh, Coated with the Aromatic Oat & Egg Floss.
Wok Fried Live Prawn with Butter, Crispy Oat & Egg Floss

★ I absolute Love My Fishes, Be it Deep Fried or Steamed or Raw. This Deep Fried Marble Goby is Crispy on the outside and Tender on the inside, with the aromatic Onion Soya Sauce to top it off, I could finish it on my own if I was allowed to!
Deep Fried Marble Goby with Spring Onion Soya Sauce

Every Singaporean's Favourite Dish, The Chilli Crab. We can almost call it our Iconic Dish that All our tourist MUST TRY when they Visit. International Seafood's Version had a more Peppery kind of Spicy Taste as compared to some other that has the chilli kind of Spicy Taste. Please tell me you understand what I'm saying. But Nonetheless, The Crab was fresh and sweet, accompanied with the deep fried Mantou to dip into the sauce. Its Finger Licking Good.
Singapore's Famous Chilli Crab

Garlic Bread & Fried Mantou

Thai style Curry, Lacking in the oomph that Curry should have, this was neither spicy or exciting to my taste bud. But the sauce did go well with the Garlic Bread Slices. Kids will love it.
Thai Curry Crab

A Culinary Mixture of Different Mushrooms accompanied with a Basket of Deep Fried Yam Strips, I did not really taste the Yam although there were occasional hint of Yam Taste.
Smiling Thai

★ Flavourful Soup Broth with Ingredients Overflowing. This Tom Yum soup is not to be missed. Fresh Seafood and Mushrooms and Chilli made up this wonderful broth, But it is not Sour enough for my liking.
Seafood International Tom Yum Broth

Surprisingly Tender Chicken which is marinated with just the right amount of seasoning, the Sesame Topping added to the aroma for the chicken.
Canton Roasted Silken Chicken with Sesame Topping

★ Ooh La La,  Soft Shell Crab with Any Floss on top is the best pairing I could find for it. The Crab is still crispy after a long time after all the photographing by all the bloggers. Plus point! :)
Crisp-fried Soft Shell Crab with Curry Flavoured Chicken Floss Topping

Stir Fried White Stone Clam with Mirin

Wok Fried Butter Fish in Pandan Coconut sauce

XO Chilli Sauce wasn't too fragrant and Pasta was not done al dante, But Its passable and super good if you are craving for Carbs!
