First Homemade Tamago experience at Barashi-Tei

New Japanese Store is opened in Dhoby Ghaut area!
Founder and Chef, Mr Wang Zhen Feng is proud to present Barashi-Tei, his new Japanese restaurant which serves only dishes made with freshest ingredients from Japan. With an able team in the kitchen and a head chef with more than 30 years of experience in Japanese cuisine, this is one Japanese restaurant to take note of.

We started off the Japanese Food Night with an Avocado Salmon Salad($13.80). Creamy goodness from the Avocado gave this salad a pretty interesting texture on my palette.

Sashimi Salad ($13.80)

My favourite Maki of the night is the Spicy Salmon Maki($12.80). Super Shiok with crispy Tempura Prawn and Torched Salmon!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE POST - Homemade Yaki Tamago ($5)
Don't judge it by it's appearance, this the the best $5 you'll ever spend on!
The homemade Tamago Yaki retains the natural eggy yellow, not those overly Yellow type you see outside. and the burnt bits rolled in together makes each piece unique on it's own!

This beautiful little Garden is the Rice Paper Ebi Maki($10.80) from Barashi-Tei. A really good option for the carbs consious friends.

Between the Chirashi Don ($23.00) and the Bara Chirashi Don($13.80), I prefer the latter cos easier to dig in! Haha. All chopped up for my convenience to just dig in after a photo taking session. Hehe. However, I must say that the Chirashi Don have really thick slices of fishes. Worth it la for $23!

I super super love this Kurama Ebi ($7.80). The generous sprinkle of the golden brown fried garlic added so much flavour and texture to this. I can finish it on my own omg! The Wasabi Ebi ($7.80) did not impress, maybe due to the lack of the wasabi kick.

Very shocking dish to be served at a Japanese Restaurant. The Sirloin Steak with Foie Gras ($19.80) was not impressive.

Oyster loving friends, rejoice! Barashi Tei is bringing the grilled oyster to a whole new level, by wrapping them with BACON! Yes ! Charred and oily goodness, the Oyster Bacon Kushi ($3.80) is a delightful snack to go with your Japanese Beer!

Gindara Nabe ($24)

End the day with Japanese Flavoured Ice Cream is at $5 each. Flavours range from Matcha to Black Sesame and Yuzu and more! Check out their dessert menu la!

Overall I had a great time at Barashi Tei.
Please visit them to try out the TAMAGO and the Kurama Prawn and the Spicy Salmon Maki!

[F.T] The Royal Mail - Classic British Cuisine

The Royal Mail Restaurant & Bar is a 60-seater establishment housed within the historical and culturally-rich Ascott Raffles Place and serves modern interpretations of Classic British Cuisine where Roasts and Prime Rib take centre stage.
A vintage brass mail chute, which stands in its full glory by the lift lobby of the Ascott, is the inspiration for The Royal Mail concept which provides guests with a touch of Old World elegance from the days of letter-writing, Doris Day, Grace Chang and policemen in shorts.

Amuse-Bouche - Tender Octupus paired with Wasabi Dressing, feeling a little more Japanese here.
My personal favourite - Pan-seared Foie Gras - $24 with Camembert cheese, wonderful combination.
Or you could indulge in the Lightly Seared Beef Tenderloin - $20 with Various Toppings.
Another pick would be the sous vide half Maine Lobster - $24 presented in such vibrant colours, sweet!

Mains
Fresh Deboned Fish of the day - $52 for 2, I love the Garlic that came with it and the beautifully packed lemon half for you to squeeze on the fish. That fish is definitely a fresh catch!

A twist to the usual Squid Ink pasta, the Lobster Linguine with Squid Ink Foam - $28 is presented with a ball of squid ink foam which you can take a few moments to admire, and then you mix it up. Squid Ink taste not to distinctive though.

Feast on their hearty Kurobuta Pork Chop with apples - $48 if you do not prefer red meat. This huge piece of kurobuta will definitely make you wished you shared it with someone!

A 280g slab of beef is used for the Roast Prime Rib -$58, served with Yorkshire Pudding.

Intense Flavour of Sweetness from the marinade, The BBQ Beef Short Ribs - $36 tasted somehow similar to those of the Chinese Tze char Pai Gu Wang (Pork ribs), But it's better..

I got Sugar High
Banoffee Tart -$13 - Banana and Coffee Tart, did someone say banana? Enough said!
Eton Mess -$15 - Sweet Sweet meringue with strawberries, Ice cream and hazelnuts. drizzled with Carmel sauce, Oooh La La~ Give me another!
Chocolate Fondant - $18 - It basically means Chocolate Lava cake with Vanilla Ice Cream! -screams-

I enjoyed myself at The Royal Mail, The ambience is definitely delightful, I would love to visit again.

Saveur - Affordable French Food at Purvis Street

So what is this "Most affordable french cuisine" place Saveur hype about?
Do they really serve you french cuisine at pocket friendly prices?

Yes they do, But portions are small, which might make up end up ordering more for, since it's price tag is reasonable too. Not too bad a marketing strategy.
Shirley Temple - $3.00

Appetizers are pretty decent, price tag will really make you take a second look at their non-extensive menu again to confirm it. I almost had the urge to order one of each to try them out but of course I kept myself sane.

Pan Fried Foie Gras still had a little smell to it but for the price tag, it's good enough and the size is pretty worth it! The creamy lentils was a good pair with it. The ever popular Saveur Pasta is especially good to me, the amount of sakura shrimp made me really excited and the pasta is tossed with konbu seaweed and barely noticable mince meat which is almost pureed into a paste I guess?
Pan Fried Foie Gras with Lentils and Pickled Onions - 35g-$7.90/70g -$14.90
Saveur's Pasta - $3.90

The dinner partner had the Crispy pork belly with poached egg, pork belly is tender and the skin is really crispy, mixed the egg with the creamy lentils and eat it together with the pork belly for another level of satisfaction, a pity that that the pork belly came in such a small portion. I had the Duck Confit, crispy duck that fell off the bones resting on a bed of mash that was really smooth.

Duck Confit

Dessert was Salted Caramel Lava Cake, I could not resist NOT ordering it! But it was nothing fantastic that I would recommend to others. It got really Gelat and the Lava did not flow from Inside the cake, Saveur's Lava came from the top of the cake, somewhat like a volcano style.

Overall experience at Saveur is pleasant and food is decent but I am not dying to go back soon, the noise level inside is pretty high which I do not enjoy while dining at all.
