Parsley & Thyme Restaurant, located along Kampong Bahru Road is just a few units down from Strangers Reunion and it's not to be missed with the white wall finish. Upon Stepping, you will feel very cozy & relaxed with the warm orangey light, red walls and wooden furniture interior.
Chef-Owner Daryl Cheong is an inspiring young chef who has taken over the running of Parsley & Thyme Restaurant. He is a product of Singapore's leading At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy, and has a degree in Business Management from the Queensland University of Technology. Upon graduation, he worked at a bank, but eventually decided to pursure his love of cooking and become a full time chef. And Under the guidance of previous Dutch Chef-Owner Dennis Kool, Daryl will continue to serve all the popular dishes such as French Onion Soup.
Talking about the French Onion Soup, we were treated to more than that and here's what I think of them!
Fragrant French Onion Soup, Sweet Caramelized Onions and Flavourful Beef broth but it seemed to have overwhelmed the onion taste in this version which I personally do not really fancy, though it may be different on individual.
The Grilled Calamari is prepared differently here at Parsely & Thyme, Chef-Owner Daryl aims to retain the moisture and original flavour of the calamari, therefore he chose to only lightly season the calamari with garlic and grilled to perfection, served with a side of salad and tartare sauce. And indeed, the calamari was cooked just nice, not over cooked at all i could taste the fragrance of the grilled calamari and a hint of the garlic season.
Smoked Duck Salad is the Chef's Recommendation and it offers Slices of Smoked Duck Breast Fillet with marinated citrus fruits on top of mixed greens tossed with a unqiue Star Anis dressing. Yes, you did not read wrongly, It is Star Anis, though I did not taste a strong Star Anis flavour, The dressing had a citrusy taste which was refreshing and it definitely prepared my palate for more food coming up!
Kurobuta Pork Chop is a new item on the Menu and it features a 200 - 250gram piece of kurobuta pork grilled to perfect tenderness and it is juicy in every bite, paired with the side of baby potatoes and the special sauce, it was too much for a lady to finish it on her own, recommended to share for ladies with a small appetite, for guys, it would be just nice!
We requested for Medium Rare Angus Beef Steak but it came in medium, but beef was still tender and sauce is paired well, can't comment much on this as it was told to me by a fellow dinner friend on the table.
This is the first time I'm eating Butterfish and I must say the texture is similar to Cod fish and it's smooth texture makes me crave for more, but it is a tad salty in my opinion.
I always have space in my stomach for desserts, say all the ladies that I know that love their sweet stuff as much as I do. Parsley & Thyme served up a Uncommon Orange No bake Cheesecake which made us quite excited. We couldn't wait to dig in and the taste of the cheesecake is similar to the chinese Orange Peel (Chen Pi), Unique indeed, Worth a Try!
The Caramel Panna Cotta was a miss however, The Caramel taste was not strong and the apple cubes were a tad sour for my liking but the crumbly top was something that made this dessert more appealing, I could taste a slight bitterness in the panna cotta and I forgot to ask why.
Overall, my experience at Parsley & Thyme was a pleasant one with the kind staff that attended to us, explaining to us the different types of cooking methods and ingredients used in each dish so that we could better understand the owner's effort to bring out the best of each dish for every customer.
