Compass One Chinese New Year Market 2019

With Chinese New Year round the corner, there are so many festive markets/fairs popping up irregardless in the busy town area or in the heartlands. I was invited to visit Compass One’s Festive market and I was taken aback at the scale of their CNY Fair! It’s size is comparable to those big scaled ones that are in town area shopping malls!

We were spoilt for choices and didn’t know what t expect since there are so much things to look and see and taste. Yes! Best thing about these CNY Fair is that you get to try before you buy’ sometimes you can even try until you are too full for dinner, I kid you not. The amount of vendors here at the Compass One CNY Fair are aplenty and there are just so much things to try around.

Traditional Favourites

Peanuts and Melon seeds are a Must Haves in my family. We used to head over to Chinatown to squeezing through Chinatown Festive Market row by row to get my goodies. Now I can just get all my favourites from heartland malls nearby. Be spoiled for choices from Peanut King! They offer a wide variety of Peanuts and Melon seeds, from Sweet to Savory ones. Go try!

Next, there is also Peanut Candy and Sesame Candy from Yang Hua Cake House! These are the snacks which old people love but some of them already have no strength to bite it anymore. oh no the peanut candy from Yang Hua Cake House is really fragrant and taste fresh!

Gin Thye & 余记饼家 are both well known brand in the market and they have loads of CNY goodies for you to mix and match. Great for gifting or just indulging in it yourself! Hehe.

Popular favourites

Kele pineapple tarts and it’s friends are here at Compass One CNY Fair too! They have introduced some flavours which are lower in sugar content, making it diabetic friendly, better reason to feast on them! Haha.

Hokkaido Vegetables Crisps is your alternative to balancing out your diet! All the different vegetable crisps are skillfully air fried while retaining their health benefits. Making them suitable for cheating those little ones to eat more vegetables! Haha! They also have this thing called the Shimiji Clam Soup - it is made up of dried Seaweed & Clam with some seasoning and all you have to do is add Hot Water and Tada, you get a nice warm bowl of soup. The staff said that some of their customers even use this as hot pot soup base!! Cool!

Unconventional Snacks

Aroma Truffle Chips has hands down the best Truffle Chips I ate in my entire 26 years of life. #oopsnowyouknowmyage ever since I got hooked when I first tried them in Cold Storage, I have been going around telling people how good it is. Must Buy if you love truffle like me! Best thing is you get to try first!!

Uncle Didi’s Fresh Popcorn And Snacks is your solution to the movie marathon you’ve plan this Public Holiday. Freshly made popcorn comes in assorted flavours like Caramel, Salted Caramel, Salted and Milo Flavour! I personally love the Milo Flavoured one. Maybe I should head down to get 1 bucket!!

Healthy Seaweed Crisps with Sesame from Hui Kun Seaweed Snacks (会坤-芝麻夹心海苔)
This one is for the health conscious friends out there. These Seaweed Crisps are not oil fried, there’s no salt, no MSG , no additives and no preservatives. And yet they are so amazing crunchy! Cheers to guilt free snacking.

If you are still soaking up the Golden goodness of salted egg snacks, Aunty Esther’s range of salted egg fish skin, Potato chips and tempura seaweed crisps will be sure to satisfy! *crunch crunch*

Something for the old souls

Glacier Confectionery offers a wide assortment of Handmade Kuehs and Pastries. Their Signature Yam Cake had also just won the People’s Choice 2019 award! I mean just look at it, this is the perfect portion and I could polish off 2 on my own! They also have the usual Kueh Kosui, Kueh Dardar and even homemade pineapple tarts that is great for sharing this festive season. Check them out at their shop if you miss the chance to catch them at Compass One CNY Fair.

There is also another Kueh shop - Ang Mo Kio Nonya Kueh which sells slightly different types of kuehs from Glacier. Ang Mo Kio Nonya Kuehs offers Png Kueh, Ang Ku Kueh, Rempah Udang and even 9 Layer Kueh. I remember that I was always being scolded when I tried to eat it layer by layer instead of just chomping in. Who else does this too?

After all these snacking, time for something sweet. Rickson Kitchen Konniyaku Jelly offers more than 15 flavours, their best seller is the Sour Plum! They also have fruity flavours such as Blueberry, Apple, Mango, Nata De Coco and more! They have also specially created the Koi Fish and Golden Piggy design for this festive season! Just look at how cute they are!!

And if you start to feel that your throat has overhauled after all the CNY Snacking, here’s something amazing which you have to try! These healthy pastilles from Everything Good Singapore will help you soothe that scratchy throat. Flavours include: Loquat, Grape Seed & Polypmenols Tea (Green Tea). Each candy will have a slight cooling effect after taste which makes them kinda addictive in my opinion. And each flavour boosts different health benefits so be sure to choose wisely!

Are you too busy to get your house decorated? Quickly drop by to Compass One to get those cute little piggy or God of Fortune decorations to make sure you Huat many many this coming year!

Phew! We’ve finally come to the end of this post but there were so much more stalls that we could not cover! Please go check them out one by one and I’m sure there will be something for everyone!

I would like to thank Compass One & dear June for the invite. I had a wonderful time and I wish everyone a Huat Huat Piggy Year!

With Love, M
