Lemongrass soda                                                    Carrot Seduction

Rev up your appetite and start the buffet off with some Tiger Prawns with Warm Ginger Sauce. The tiger prawns are marinated with ginger juice and steamed to perfection. When paired with chef’s very own homemade ginger dip, it enhances the prawn’s natural sweetness and gives it an aromatic kick. This soulful dish is sure to warm up your taste bud and get you ready for the mains.

Fire up your appetite with one of our highlight, the Chilli Crab Penne. Prepared at the live action station, chef combines al dente penne, de-shelled crab meat with his homemade chilli sauce to create a flavourful gravy. You can select the level of spiciness according to your liking, don't be shy to speak to the chefs!

The famous local favourite, Steamed Hainanese Chicken with Breaded Rice Balls will also be served with a modern and fun touch. The rice is kneaded into bite-sized balls, and coated with a layer of Japanese breadcrumbs before entering the fryer. Now, that's a real twist to the local favourite, I love the fried rice balls and I could not help but eat afew more! If you pair the golden brown rice balls with tender chicken chunks and a special chilli tomato chutney, this dish is instantly given a refreshing twist in both taste and texture.

The aromatic Paper-wrapped Chicken Risotto at STREET 50 is presented with an Italian twist. Arborio rice are stuffed into chicken mid-wings, BONELESS, which are marinated for six hours with a blend of Chinese herbs and spices, before they are wrapped into little packages and deep-fried to perfection. Every package is a harmonious marriage of Chinese-Italian flavours, one is never enough. I love that it's boneless which makes it super easy and addictive!

Any celebration wouldn’t be complete without delightful sweets. End your evening on a perfect sweet-savoury note with a bowl of Yam Paste served with Gingko Nuts, My favourite dessert at any wedding dinner or any other place! The smooth yam paste is drizzled with salted coconut milk for a light savoury touch, bringing back memories to anyone, though I usually do not get salted coconut milk, the STREET 50's version is pretty interesting to me, the blend of the sweet & savoury flavours.. Bukit Timah Cafe Hop - The Missing Pan

Cafe Hopping is like a norm nowadays with everyone gathering at the newest and hippiest cafes around, even those hidden in alleys or what not. I hopped on the cafe hopping train and landed myself in Bukit Timah with some of my dear ladies for a day of Cafe hopping in Bukit Timah. We started with Assembly, and next, its The Missing Pan, check out out hashtag #bukittimahcafehop on instagram!

The Missing Pan is really packed so I definitely recommend you to make a reservation prior to visiting to avoid long waiting time. The black paint makes it stand out along the row of shophouses. Though being 2 storey high, it's pretty cramp, might be due to the fact that they have a lift within them. During my visit, many young couples and families can be spotted chilling the weekend away.

Lychee & Lemon Mint Homemade Soda $6 - Refreshing drink to quench your thirst with hint of mint and two huge lychees, definitely worth your money! 62 degree egg with smoked salmon $22 Delectable smoked salmon on toasted bread with avocado spread topped with 62 degree poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Something I would actually come back for despite the journey from my home.

The Guinness Pot Pie $24 is a first for me, Infusing Guinness within the Beef Stew, A little strong but when paired with the puff pastry, this becomes a relatively pleasant balance.

I've heard so much about TMP's French Toast Salpicon $19 I simply had to try it! When presented with the colourful fruits (Banana, Strawberry, Dragon Fruit, Kiwi and Fried Banana Nuggets), the French toast seems like a sweet treat. But upon further probing, it reveals a chest of savoury chicken, mushroom and spinach. Definitely one of its kind in my dictionary! The Huge Portion will make you fall in love at how value for money this dish is. Oh, I'm craving for this as I type.

I'm planning to head back to The Missing Pan for their Lunch Menu which looks seriously enticing!!

619D Bukit Timah Road
6466 4377 (reservations allowed)
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Tue – Sun); Closed on Mondays.

Have you been there? What is your recommendation? Share it with me! ^^

[F.T] Siam Society Singapore

The closest we can get to Thailand is to indulge in Thai Food, so a new thai eatery - Siam Society has popped up along Jalan Riang, replacing the space that used to be Fat Cat. I am jealous of residents staying around Jalan Riang because they have so much delicious food there such as Wimbly Lu and Cajun King!

Thai Iced Tea & Lemongrass ($3.90 ea). I can never miss out these drinks whenever I visit a Thai restaurant, be it for Mookata or for Phad thai or for Tom Yum Soup, I will never fail to order them. Siam Society's Homemade Lemongrass is fragrant and not too sweet which is great for quenching our thirst or to sooth the spiciniess when we indulge in the yummy food.

Mango Salad ($9.90) - Spicy & Sour to kick start your palate in anticipation for the dishes coming on later.
Clear Seafood Tom Yum Soup (S - $10.90 / L - $16.90) Fresh seafood in the seemingly harmless clear soup that packs a punch on every sip, Shiok ah!

Siam Society has one of the best Green Curry Chicken ($12.90) I've had in Singapore so far! Creamy, Flavourful with tender pieces of chicken meat, I suspect it is chicken thigh meat lor. So good with rice!!
Salted Egg Cuttlefish($14.90) lacks the excitement that we normally have at Zi Char stalls where the cuttlefish is deep fried with a crispy batter before coating with salted egg sauce. Siam Society's version is clean and cuttlefish is fresh.

Thai Morning Glory ($8.90) - What a beautiful name for a simple dish of stir-fry veg. No fancy seasoning, just good stir fry veggies, dig in!

Yellow Curry Prawn ($17.90) - One of the dish at Siam Society that I would definitely recommend to everyone! Alongside with Weeping Tiger(Grilled Sirloin Beef) ($24.90), is among the few Signature dishes at Siam Society that everyone should try!! My table of ladies could not stop praising the Yellow Curry Prawns, and I must say the prawns are real fresh and the yellow curry is nothing near death spicy, so it's suitable for everyone, I believe even kids!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY - Steamed Seabass ($31.90) - Fresh WHOLE Seabass in the spicy and sourish sauce which excites the palate like no other! even if we had a full tummy, we would do our very best to swallow this delicious seabass anytime because it's just too good!! Prawn Cake Balls ($11.90) are like addictive popcorn chicken but with prawn and a crispy batter together with a plum dip. A little on the salty side but It is addictive when dipped in the plum sauce! Yums!

The Classic Trio of Thai Dessert, Red Ruby ($4.90), Tapioca ($4.90) & Mango Sticky Rice ($7.90). Red Ruby is made of water chestnut and topped with shaved ice and jackfruit strips, pretty good version here at Siam Society. I recently fell in love with tapioca although my all time favourite has been Mango Sticky Rice. Hmmmmm.. Can I just have them all? :)

I truly enjoyed myself at Siam Society and the ambience there is great for a group of friends to chill out and just chit chat the night away, although it's a little inconvenient, but I would say it's definitely worth a visit!

Check out Siam Society's Facebook for the latest updates & promotions!!

[F.T] Sampoutei Ramen - Best of Nigata Ramen

Established Popular Japanese Ramen Chain - Sampoutei Ramen from Niigata recently unveiled its flagship outlet among the stretch of shophouses in Holland Village!

Sanpoutei Ramen
253 Holland Avenue #01-01
Singapore 278982

Founded in 1967 by Mr Yukihiro Kaneko, sampoutei presents to customers the most authentic Niigata-style Ramen; easily identified by its unique noodles and selection of soup base.

Ramen noodles are freshly made in the shop daily with specially-imported top quality flour from Niigata, the Rice Capital of Japan, each strand of noodle is crimped instead of straight or wavy and possesses a light gold hue. Only 200 Portions of Ramen noodles are prepared daily, I seriously hope the next time I head down for it at dinner time, it is still available!

Boasting premium quality ingredients prepared with careful precision, each bowl of ramen aims to woo the palate of discerning ramen lovers with its noodles; prepared fresh everyday in the shop, and flavourful broths, such as the signature Niigata Shoyu ramen in a clear fish stock-based broth.

Start your journey at Sanpoutei with some sanpoutei Deep fried spring chicken with the refreshing Oroshi Yuzu Ponzu Sauce($7.80) or take on a exciting ride with the Mori-miso cucmber ($3) - Chilled Crunchy Japanese Cucmbers topped with a relatively spicy miso paste despite it being stated as mildly-spiced, or the Bamboo shoots dressed with spicy miso ($3). In-between your meal, enjoy the plump and juicy Edamame which is grown with them drinking water from natural waterfalls in Niigata. I do not eat Edamame but I can't stop eating them so it means they are very good!

The Sanpoutei signature Niigata Shoyu Ramen ($14) is made from a proprietary recipe, the soup base, which is simmered for 6 hours, consist of chicken, pork, mushrooms and most importantly, two kinds of premium niboshi(dried sardines). Each bowl of ramen is then topped with aburi(torched) cha shu which has beautiful marbling and every bite melts in your mouth, onsen egg, bamboo shoots and a huge piece of seaweed completes this beautiful masterpiece. Okay, i need a bowl of this right now!

W Soup Tonkutsu Ramen ($16) - Collagen-rich pork bone based broth that has been simmered for 12 hours, which gives it the milky colour is the popular choice among locals. Owner of Sanpoutei said that they did not understand why Singaporeans love tonkutsu based ramen so much, because in Japan, they love the Shoyu Ramen more than Tonkutsu ones!

Besides piping hot bowls of ramen, sanpoutei also serves up delicious rice specialties using only the most premium rice in Japan - Niigata's crystal clear waters renders top quality Kurotori rice which is prized for it's exquisite taste & bite. Used in the Butariki Niigata Rice Mini Don ($4); a satisfying bowl of pan-fried shoyu flavoured pork slices, spring onions, raw egg and sanpoutei's special sauce.

Complement the meal with a thoughful selection of Niigata's finest sake which is available from $10 for a 140ml pour. Alternatively, you can enjoy ice cold beer such as Sapporo Premium Beer or Tiger Beer.

And a meal is never complete without desserts, at least for me. Sanpoutei offers three flavours of ice cream at $3 per scoop or $8 for 3 scoops. Indulge in the pretty yellow Yuzu sherbet, the ever popular Matcha or the yummy Black sesame! Each have their own distinct charisma that I would recommend all to try!

Thank you Sanpoutei Ramen for this wonderful invite for the yummiest Niigata Shoyu Ramen and I'm sure I'm heading back soon!! I need my fix of both Ramen & Kurotori rice!
